Anyone steeped in King lore have any theories? The creature seems like some sort of proto-Pennywise type entity considering that people with strong bonds with another are able to better resist its effects. So what was this thing? The main character was convinced that it was something approaching him through the walls ready to eat him in some kind of fashion. The part where the phone was shouting shit like “Six! It’s Six! Goddamn fucking six!” in an electric clippers voice was completely horrifying to me in the middle of the night. I love the fact that it’s not just “ghosts” but something else - something weirdly alien and beyond our understanding. I get that it was born out of a writer’s workshop but King himself wrote that he kind of fell in love with it an had to finish it. I’m not all that steeped in Stephen King universe lore, though, so I’m hoping someone here can give some theories. It’s my understanding that King’s stories are essentially part of a shared universe to some degree. I’ve read some of his major works including It, The Stand, Carrie, Needful Things, and Insomnia. ![]() I wouldn’t consider myself a big King fan, but I do enjoy his stuff. Last night, in a fever induced haze from my 2nd COVID vaccine, I decided to read the Stephen King short story, 1408.
